Rev. Alice Madeline Davis, 96, Warfordsburg, passed away Saturday, February 26, 2022, at Meritus Medical Center, Hagerstown, MD.
Born January 16, 1926, in Barnum, WV., she was the daughter of the late Willie and Nellie Bray and the widow of Rev. George W. Davis, whom she married on July 18, 1942.
She loved to embroider, shop and travel, having visited many US States, Israel, Rome and Greece.
She began her ministry around the age of 15 as a children’s Sunday school teacher. Later in life she worked to become a Minister of the Gospel, first as an evangelist, then co-pastoring three churches with her late husband.
During their first church ministry in Timber Ridge, VA., she worked at G.C. Murphy’s and London Fog sewing factory in Hancock, MD. They later accepted an invitation to the Dry Fork Assembly of God Church, in Dry Fork, WV. From there they went to Jakes Run Assemblies of God, in Jakes Run, WV., where they then retired. They were later recalled to Dry Fork to pastor once again and oversaw the construction of a new church. They would then retire again back in Warfordsburg, PA., where she would preach her last sermon at 95 years of age.
She became a member of Faith Assembly of God after moving and retiring in Warfordsburg, PA.
She is survived by her son, Rev. William E. Davis and wife, Nita (McKee), Warfordsburg; six grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; 14 great-great-grandchildren; and several step grandchildren.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Richard E. Davis; a daughter, Sharon E. Hendershot; two grandchildren, Leslie W. Davis, Jr. and Rhonda Weddle; and one great-grandchild, Nichole DeLoso.
The family will receive friends Wednesday, March 2, 2022, 6:00-8:00 pm, at Grove Funeral Home, 141 West Main Street, Hancock, MD 21750. Funeral services will be held Thursday, March 3, 2022, at 11:00 am, at Jerusalem Christian Church, Church Road, Warfordsburg, PA., with viewing one hour prior to the service. Delmas Bard with officiate and burial will be in the adjoining church cemetery.
