Allan Dale Hixon, Sr., age 80, of Warfordsburg, died on Monday, August 18, 2014, at his home.
Born May 20, 1934 in Amaranth, Pa., he was the son of the late Charles Calvin, Sr. and Francina Whitfield Hixon.
He was a veteran, serving in the U.S. Army from 1956 to 1958.
He was retired from Prowler-Fleetwood Industries, in Hancock, Md.
He was a Christian who always studied his Bible; a member of the NRA; an avid hunter; a part-time farmer; and he loved his sawmills.
He also loved his goats, and he operated Hixon’s Park and Campgrounds. He was an amateur radio operator.
He was a very loving and giving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.
He is survived by his wife, Julia Hendershot Hixon, whom he married November 7, 1955; one daughter, Cynthia Rinker and husband, John, of Warfordsburg; three sons; Allan Dale Hixon, Jr. and wife, Kathy, of Warfordsburg, Edward Hixon, of Hopewell, Pa., and Ernest Hixon, of Warfordsburg; one brother; Charles Calvin Hixon, Jr. and wife, Ruth, of Wolcott, N.Y.; seven grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; and several step-grandchildren.
Besides his parents, he was also preceded in death by two sisters, Edna and Ada; and six brothers, Russell, Clifford, John, Phil, Grant and Harry.
A Graveside Service will be held on Thursday, August 21, 2014, at 10:00 a.m., at Buck Valley Christian Cemetery. Rev. William Swope will officiate. The Pallbearers will be his grandsons.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, from 6 to 8 p.m., at the Grove Funeral Home, 141 West Main Street, Hancock, Md.
