Alphonse Jacob "Zeke" Shoemaker, age 70, of Hancock, MD., died Friday, May 21, 2010 at his home, which he built.
Born August 21, 1939 in Hancock, MD., he was the son of the late Jacob Edward and Goldie Letitia Weller Shoemaker.
He attended Hancock Elementary and Hancock High School.
He worker for Keefer Construction, the Union and Perini Construction, and retired from RHP Construction after 19 years.
He enjoyed spending time outdoors, hunting deer, working in the woods, mushroom hunting and playing pool. He also loved the family's annual trip to Hershey Park and vacationing in Hershey with his wife.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Rebecca Jane Keefer Shoemaker of Hancock; one son, Randy E. Shoemaker of Hancock; five daughters, Karen J. Rohm of Warfordsburg, PA., Arlene K. Rhodes of Hancock, Lori A. Ammons and Angela M. Shoemaker both of Hagerstown and April D. Davis of Little Orleans, MD.; ten grandchildren; two step-grandchildren and two great grandchildren; and three sisters, Priscilla Keefer of Big Cove Tannery, PA., Loretta Romberger of Clear Spring, MD., and Lucille Garland of Warfordsburg, PA.
He was preceded in death by one grandson and a son-in-law Danain T. Ammons.
A service will be held Tuesday, May 25 at 2:00 p.m. at Stone Bridge Church of the Brethren Church. Rev. Harry Strite will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends Monday 3-8 p.m. at the Grove Funeral Home, Hancock, MD. and Tuesday from 1-2 p.m. at the church.
