Bernard Lambertus Ashkettle, age 85, of Hancock, Md., passed away on Monday, December 31, 2018, at his home.
Born December 23, 1933, in Little Orleans, Md., he was the son of the late James Lambertus and Mary Ellen (Young) Ashkettle; and the husband, for 58 years, of Irma Beatrice (Lewis) Ashkettle.
He was a member of St. Peter Catholic Church, in Hancock.
He retired from CertainTeed Mfg., in Williamsport, Md., after 35 years of employment with them.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by three sons, Lynn B. Ashkettle, of Hancock, Joseph A. Ashkettle and his wife, Bonnie, of Warfordsburg, Pa., and Matthew J. Ashkettle and his wife, Monica, of Big Cove Tannery, Pa.; one daughter, Mary L. Appel and her husband, Terry, of Hancock; two sisters, Mary Catherine Ashkettle, of Little Orleans, Md., and Teresa Wallizer and her husband, Robert, of Hancock; ten grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, John B. Ashkettle; a brother, John A. Ashkettle; and an infant brother.
The family will receive friends at the St. Peter Catholic Church, 16 East High Street, Hancock, on Saturday, January 5, 2019, from 9:00 until 11:00 a.m., when a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m., with Fr. John Lombardi officiating. Burial will be private.
