Bernard L. Spielman, Sr., age 95, of Hancock, Md., passed away on Tuesday, June 19, 2018, at his home.
Born Tuesday, May 8, 1923, in Berkeley Springs, W.Va., he was the son of the late Dustin and Donna Mae (Barnes) Spielman.
He was a lifetime member of the Hancock Presbyterian Church, where he served as an elder, a deacon and a trustee.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served during the Battle of the Bulge in WWII.
After his discharge, he worked as a car salesman for Hoffman Chevrolet, in Hancock, and later he owned and operated his own business, B&H Auto Sales, also in Hancock.
He was a member of the American Legion Post 26, in Hancock; the Disabled American Veterans; The Veterans of Foreign Wars; and the Military Order of the Purple Heart.
Bernard is survived by his wife of seventy-one years, Dorothy M. (Reed) Spielman; a son, Bernard L. “Rick” Spielman, Jr. and his wife, Delores, of Black Mountain, N.C.; three brothers, Denver, Gary, and Steve Spielman; two grandchildren, Erin Schlecht, of Swannanoa, N.C., and Matt Spielman Argonauta, of Charlotte, N.C.; and a great-grandson, Nathan Schlecht, of Swannanoa, N.C.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Willard and Richard Spielman; and a sister, Ailene Spielman.
A memorial service to honor his life will be held on Saturday, June 23, 2018, at 3:00 p.m., at the Hancock Presbyterian Church, 17 East Main Street, Hancock, Md. Rev. Terry Martin-Minnich will officiate and Military Honors will be conducted by the Tri-State Honor Guard.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations in his name may be made to the Hancock Presbyterian Church or to Hospice of Washington County.
