Carol Hope Ritz, age 75, passed away on October 1, 2013, at Homewood Skilled Care, in Williamsport, Md., with her children by her side. She had been residing at Homewood for the past several years, where she received loving care from the staff. She was born May 25, 1938, the daughter of the late Marvin L. Golden and late Dorothy E. Golden, and she grew up in Piney Plains, Md.
She graduated from Flintstone High School, and after graduation worked as a clerk at Conn and Fine, in Hancock, Md.
She was united in marriage to the late John C. Ritz in 1958. They made their home in Buck Valley.
She was the Tax Collector for Union Township for many years; worked at the family store, Ritz Brothers; and cared for numerous children in her home.
She is survived by four children, Dena Mellott, of Warfordsburg, Pa, married to Tracy, Jeffrey Ritz, of Greencastle Pa, married to Tracy (Wissinger), Todd Ritz, of Warfordsburg, Pa., married to Wendy (Strait), and Darla Shives, of Needmore, married to Duane. She was blessed with 16 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by one sister, Marlene Barnhart, of Warfordsburg; and three brothers, Leslie Golden and Maple Golden, both of Hancock, Md., and Tommy Golden, of Clearville, Pa.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Violet Jane Golden.
She was an active member of Buck Valley Christian Church, where she enjoyed serving in the nursery; ladies group; and nursing home committee. She participated in the Gideon’s Women’s Auxiliary.
Shopping and finding a bargain was a favorite pastime. She was a devoted friend to many, and always willing to give of herself. She loved spending time with her grandchildren. Caring for her family was her passion.
Visitation will be at the Buck Valley Christian Church from 2 to 7 p.m. on Friday, October 4th.
Funeral services will be on Saturday, October 5th at 2:00 p.m., with family visitation at 1:00 p.m. Burial will follow at the Church cemetery.
