Chalmer Strait

Chalmer Clarence Strait, 77, Warfordsburg, Pa., passed away on Saturday, November 13, 2021.

Born February 25, 1944, in Amaranth, Pa., he was the son of the late Coy W. Strait and Julia V. Cutchall Strait, and the husband of Marion (Sue) Booth Strait of Warfordsburg, PA whom he was married to for 57 years.

He was a member of the Teamsters Union 992 of Hagerstown, Md., where he served as Union Steward.

He was a lifetime farmer.

He coached Buck Valley Little League for over 15 years.

He was an avid hunter, fisherman, and outdoorsman.

Chalmer and his wife Marion started a family pig roast in 1980 for all family and friends to gather and enjoy great food and company.

He retired from US Silica after 41 years of service.

He was a graduate of Southern Fulton High School Class of 1962.

In addition to his wife, Marion, he is survived by four children, Janice Robinson, and husband Greg, of Ft. Loudon, Pa., Brian Strait, and wife Geraldine (Gerri) of Warfordsburg, Pa., Karen Strait, and partner Jeff Sholes, of Hancock, Md., and Brenda Ford, and husband Jeff, of Greencastle, Pa; eight grandchildren, Courtney (Strait) Ruby, Skylar Robinson, Morgan (Strait) Dell, Levi Robinson, MacKenzie Oberholzer, Dalton Strait, Megan Oberholzer, and Ethan Ford; four great-grandchildren, Elizabeth Ruby, TJ Ruby, Hadlee Ruby, Owen Dell; two brothers, Seibert Strait, of Warfordsburg, Pa., and David Strait, of Boiling Springs, Pa.; one sister, Barbara Ross, of Waynesboro, Pa.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Grover E. Strait.

The family will receive friends Tuesday, December 28, 2021, 4:00-7:00 p.m, at Grove Funeral Home, 141 West Main St, Hancock, MD 21750.  A memorial service will follow at 7:00 p.m. Pastor Richard Bernhard will officiate.
