Curtis Edward "Smitty" Smith, age 65, died Tuesday, October 19, 2010 at his home.
Born February 7, 1945, in Hagerstown, Md., he was the son of the late Curtis Clifton and Mary Beatrice McCusker Smith.
He was a 1962 graduate of Hancock High School.
He was retired from the State Highway Administration.
He was a member of St. Peter Catholic Church, Hancock, Md., and he attended St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church Berkeley Springs, W.Va.
He is survived by his wife of 20 years, Wanda S. Ruppenthal Smith, whom he married in Winchester, Va.; one daughter, Wendy R. Vance and husband, Melvin R., of Greenup. Ky.; one son, Curtis Adam Smith and fiance, Molly Brandenburg, of Hagerstown, Md.; one step-daughter, Leslie Myer and husband, Duane, of Berkeley Springs, W.Va.; one step-son, John C. Hoover, II and wife, Jenny, of Warfordsburg, Pa.; and twelve grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two sons; Matthew Tate Smith and Joele Clifton Smith.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, October 22, at 7:00 p.m. at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, Berkeley Springs, W.Va. Fr. Leonard Smith will be celebrant. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
The family will receive friends Friday, 2 to 5 p.m. at the Grove Funeral Home, Hancock, Md.
The family requests the omission of flowers and that memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 1037 Haven Road, Hagerstown, Md. 21742
