Donald Wayne Berkstresser, Sr., age 78, of Needmore, died on Monday, October 6, 2014, at his home.

Born April 4, 1936 in Hustontown, Pa., he was the son of the late Edgar and Junie Sipes Berkstresser, and the widower of Lena Belle Stahle Berkstresser, who preceded him in death August 29, 2014.

He was a carpenter with Local 691 Washington, DC.

He was a member of Amaranth Church of the Brethren, in Warfordsburg, Pa.

He is survived by three daughters, Donya Billings and husband, Brent, of Point of Rocks, Md., Kathy Swope and husband, Garry, of Wells Tannery, Pa., and Susan Thomas and husband, Doug, of Hustontown, Pa.; two step-daughters, Satricia Woodal, of Warfordsburg, Pa., and Trecila Ward and husband, Randy, of Buck Valley, Pa.; three sons, Donald Wayne Berkstresser, Jr. and wife, Barb, of Warfordsburg, Pa., William Berkstresser, of Hustontown, Pa., and Donnie Berkstresser, of Breezewood, Pa.; one step-son, Lubrent Deneen and wife, Tari, of Berkeley Springs, W.Va.; sixteen grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; and one sister, Vivian Covert, of McConnellsburg, Pa.

Besides his parents and wife, he was also preceded in death by one step-son, Alben Deneen; one sister, Edwinnia Tice; and one brother, Herbert Berkstresser.

A service will be held on Friday, October 10, 2014, at 11:00 a.m., at Amaranth Church of the Brethren, 2709 McKee’s Gap Road, Warfordsburg, Pa. Rev. Freeman Snair will officiate. Burial will follow in the Buck Valley Methodist Cemetery, Buck Valley Road, Warfordsburg, Pa.

The family will receive friends at the Grove Funeral Home, 141 West Main Street, Hancock, Md., on Thursday, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., and at the Church on Friday from 10 to 11 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations, in his name, may be made to Amaranth Church of the Brethren, 7311 Pigeon Cove Road, Needmore, Pa. 17238
