Douglas “Dale” Shives, age 75, of Needmore, Pa., passed away on Thursday, August 31, 2017 at his home.
Born February 3, 1942, in Hancock, Md., he is the son of the late Melvin J., Sr. and Rosella (Dittmar) Shives.
Dale served in the U. S. Air Force from 1960 to 1964. He was a heavy equipment operator, retiring from Springfield Contractors with twenty-five years of service.
He was of the Lutheran faith.
He is survived by his wife, Christa (Patzke) Shives, of Needmore; a son, Duane D. Shives and his wife, Darla, of Needmore; a granddaughter, Kristen A. Mellott and her husband, Dustin, of Big Cove Tannery, Pa.; a grandson, Derek D. Shives and his girlfriend, Samantha Jones, both of Williamsport, Md.; great-grandchildren, Olivia, Logan, Evan and Ariana Mellott; two sisters, Sonja Stottler and Carol Wertman, both of Hagerstown, Md.; and two brothers, Melvin J. Shives, Jr., of Needmore, and Barry K. Shives, of Little River, S.C.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Patricia, and a brother, Gene Shives.
Services will be private and at the convenience of the family.
