Edgar Murray Yates Jr. (Spike), age 85, of Needmore, PA, devoted husband of the late Jacqueline Keiling Yates passed away suddenly on April 6, 2025.
Son of the late Edgar Murray and Theresa Talbert Yates. Also, preceded in death by brother Clyde (Peggy - surviving), grandson Steven Matthew and in-laws Norma (Donald) Watts.
Spike grew up in Beltsville, MD and joined the US Army in 1961 to become an MP/Detective. His tours of service included Korea, Germany, two tours in Vietnam and different posts in the US. Spike retired from the Army in 1984 and in December of that year, he was hired back as a civilian. At Ft. Meade, he started out as an Assistant Inspector in the Provost Marshal’s Office and in 1998 became Chief of Physical Security until his retirement in 2003.
During his retirement he became an active member of the Fulton County School Board and Fulton County Republican Committee.
He is survived by daughters: Debra Panizari and Carol (William) Briggs, Sisters-in-law: Mary (Charles) Hill and Susan (the late Robert) Rhodes. He is also survived by two brothers and a sister.
Grandchildren: James (Janelle), Joey (Pam), Angela (Chase), Chris (Allison), Danielle (Erik) and Matthew (Kelly). Great – Grandchildren; Courtney, Hailey, LJ, Anthony, Steven, Addison, Daniel, Ellie Grace, Olivia and Adeline.
Spike is now rejoicing in Heaven with the love of his life, Jackie, who he has dearly missed these last four months.
A Celebration of Life for both Spike and Jackie will be held at Rehoboth New Life Church, Needmore, PA on Saturday June 21, 2025, at 11:00 am.
