Edward Otis Brakeall, age 88, of Hancock, MD., passed away on Wednesday, May 18, 2022, at his home and made his final journey to be with the Lord.
Born June 10, 1933, in Fulton County, PA, he was the son of the late Alonza Edward Brakeall and Minnie Mae (Wink) Brakeall. He attended Hancock High School.
He was a member of the Mooresville Church of God, serving on the church council and in recent years a member of the Orchard Ridge First Church of God.
He served in the United States Army, 10th Infantry Division, from 1953-1955.
He was a member of the Webster B Harrison Post 26 American Legion. Throughout life Otis was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hunting and fishing. He was a former member of Tonoloway Rod & Gun Club.
A stone mason by trade, he retired from the National Park Service, C&O Canal, in 2000. Following retirement, Otis enjoyed a variety of hobbies and activities including woodworking, putting out the annual garden and cycling on the local roadways and rail-trail. He traveled with his wife and friends to many destinations, including Alaska, Mexico, Belize, the Southwest United States, Maine, Hawaii, Myrtle Beach, an old favorite, Ocean City, MD and for his 80th birthday he hiked the challenging switch-back trail to the top of Multnomah Falls in Oregon.
He experienced the most pleasure in life by spending time with his family and friends and helping raise his two grandsons.
He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years Adele (Suder) Brakeall; son Steven Brakeall and wife Heather, daughter Susan Brakeall and husband Mark Pearson; grandsons Kaden and Cole Brakeall, several nieces and nephews and many other friends and family.
In addition to his parents, Otis was preceded in death by a sister, Flossie Effie Everts.
The family would like to express their gratitude to all his caregivers, friends and family that provided support, love and friendship throughout his journey.
Services will be held at 1:00 pm at the Orchard Ridge First Church of God on June 4, 2022. Pastor Jeffrey Hawbaker will officiate. The family will receive friends one hour prior to services.
Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Grove Funeral Home. Online condolences will be accepted at www.grovefh.com.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Orchard Ridge First Church of God.
