Ed David Crouse was celebrating his birthday and passing on the same day he was born March 25th, at the age of 93.
He always had a magnetic energy and zeal for life about doing things differently. He was a resident of Julia Manor Nursing home in Hagerstown, MD where he passed.
He was born on March 25, 1932, in Thompson Township, Fulton County, PA. He was the son of the late Myron S. & Marie E. Bard Crouse
Ed’s life wasn’t about being important, but hard physical work! He left school at the age of fourteen when he started helping his dad on their farm stead and sawmill. He told many stories of the chores and hard work from bailing hay to planting and picking tomatoes with his oldest sister Mildred in Hancock where they both helped support their family.
He worked for M.P. Moller Organ & Eastern Enterprises for almost fifty years together until he retired at the age of 75! He also served two years in the Army from 1955 to 1957.
Ed attended Stone Bridge Church of the Brethren and the Unity of Hagerstown.
Ed is survived by two sons, Edward D. Crouse, Jr. and the late Marcya Crouse of Needmore, PA and Arnold E. Crouse and husband Joe Lambdin of Hagerstown, MD; one sister Betty Allgyer of Berkeley Springs, WV; one brother Lester Allen and his wife Brick Crouse of Hampton VA; one granddaughter Jessica and Ryan Sfassie of Kissimmee Fl; one step-granddaughter Kayla & Billie Holmes of Winchester VA; three grandsons, Joshua P. Crouse of Hagerstown, MD, Joshua L Crouse of Needmore, PA, and Dustin and Dani Crouse of Port Charlotte, FL; and 11 great grandchildren! There are two nieces, Lorraine Peacock and Eileen Smith from California and three nephews Raymond Smith from FL, Erik Crouse in VA and Justin Bowers of Hagerstown, MD.
He was preceded in death by his wife Shelvie Jean Lucille and son Rusty back in 2002!
Ed enjoyed being active and had many hobbies from working in his garden, finding mushrooms to cutting wood, fishing, hunting and carpentry making his own woodwork.
We enjoyed our joint custody visits between my brother and myself after our Mom and Rusty had passed.
He always had to help contribute when he stayed with family by cleaning bathrooms, taking care of pets, etc. He was a lover of many animals he cared for over the years.
He was always helping family, in-laws, and his friends with their projects they had from fixing vehicles, and building homes and garages, to laying bricks with his brother-in-law Homer Moats.
He also enjoyed helping with many projects of his other brothers-in-law, Donald Weller, Herman and Leroy Moats.
Ed had a kind and generous heart and didn’t expect much in return but by helping others.
He will be sadly missed by his family and friends because of the fun wonderful memories he shared along his life’s journey!
A church service will be held on Saturday, April 26th at 11:00 a.m. at the Stone Bridge Church of the Brethren located at 14904 Orchard Ridge Rd, Hancock MD 21740 with Harry Strite officiating.
