Effie Ruth Ward, age 92, of Hancock, Md., passed away on Saturday, August 26, 2017 at the Meritus Medical Center, in Hagerstown, Md.
Born June 5, 1925, in Fulton County, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Elwood and Estella (Holt) Manning, and the widow of Clyde L. Ward, whom she married July 2, 1950, and who died July 19, 1975.
She was a 1942 graduate of Hancock High School.
She was a life-long member of the Hancock Presbyterian Church, and served as the secretary-treasurer of the Tonoloway Primitive Baptist Church, near Warfordsburg, Pa., for forty years.
Over the years she worked as a secretary for Hancock Motors; a bank teller at Hagerstown Trust; and Town Clerk for the town of Hancock.
She is survived by a son, Jeffrey L. Ward and his wife, Mary, of Berkeley Springs, W.Va.; a grandson, Brian Roland, of Greencastle, Pa.; and a granddaughter, Angie Hypes, of Oak Hill, W.Va.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers, John and Harold Manning; and a grandson, Matthew Scott Ward.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, September 1, 2017, at 11:00 a.m., at the Hancock Presbyterian Church, 17 East Main Street, Hancock, with Rev. Terry Martin-Minnich officiating. Burial will be private, at the convenience of the family.
