E. Lee Cavey, age 82, of Hagerstown, Md., passed away on Monday, May 19, 2014, peacefully, at Meritus Medical Center.
Born on May 30, 1931, in Baltimore, Md., he was the son of the late Monroe and Edith G. Cavey.
He was a 1949 graduate of Ellicott City High School in Ellicott City, Md.
He was employed by John Harmes and Associates Consulting Engineers as an Inspector Engineer until his retirement in 1978.
He was a Life Member; past President; and past Deputy District Governor of the Ellicott City Lions Club. He was a Melvin Jones Fellow.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Laura M. Cavey, whom he married February 6, 1952; three sons, John A. Cavey and wife, Gwynne, of Hancock, Md., Ronald A. Cavey and wife, Karollynn, of Hagerstown, Md., Robert C. Cavey and wife, Susan, of Stevensville, Md.; one daughter, Robin J. Cavey, of Chillicothe, Oh.; one brother, Carroll M. Cavey, of Easton, Md.; one sister, Jean M. Staben, of Ellicott City, Md.; nine grandchildren, Kelly Dowe, Nicholas Cavey, Virginia Bolena, Jeremy Cavey, Kathryn Fett, Sara Cavey, Matthew Cavey, Joshua Vincent, and Alexis Cavey; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, James L. Cavey; one son, David L. Cavey; and one daughter, Sharon J. Cavey.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 24, 2014, at St. Thomas Episcopal Church, 2 East High Street, Hancock, Md., at 11:00 a.m. Reverend F. Allan Weatherholt will officiate.
The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made in his name to Holly Place, 268 South Potomac Street, Hagerstown, Md., or to a charity of one’s choice.
Grove Funeral Home, 141 West Main Street, Hancock, Md. is in charge of all of the arrangements.
