Ellis Edward “Pappy” Douglas, age 79, of Warfordsburg, died on Sunday, March 22, 2015, at the Fulton County Medical Center in McConnellsburg, Pa.
Born December 28, 1935, in Ditch Run, Fulton County, Pa., he was the son of the late Jacob Walter and Annie Catherine Hiett Douglas.
Pappy’s mother, Annie Catherine Hiett Douglas died when Pappy was 31 days old; Pappy’s father, Jacob Walter Douglas died when Pappy was 4 years and 7 months old.
After the death of Pappy’s parent’s, Pappy’s Uncle Ora and Aunt Mattie Douglas raised Pappy, providing Pappy a home for the duration of his childhood and young adult life.
He was formerly employed, as a mechanic, at Douglas Service Station and Hancock Motors in Hancock, Md.
He was a member of Pleasant Ridge Church of the Brethren in Needmore, Pa.
Pappy is survived by one daughter, Michelle Douglas of Mt. Union, PA; one son, James Truax of Warfordsburg, PA; one granddaughter; Ora and Mattie’s son’s, Bruce Douglas of Hancock, MD and Marlin Douglas of Chambersburg, PA.
Pappy was preceded in death by one brother, Walter L. Douglas; one sister, Marietta M. Zies; one half -brother, Harold W. Douglas his Uncle Ora and Aunt Mattie Douglas; and Ora and Mattie’s children, Marvin Douglas, Melvin Douglas, Eugene Douglas; Thelma McKee and Lucille Weller.
A Memorial Service was held on Thursday, March 26, 2015, at 7:00 p.m. at the Grove Funeral Home, Hancock, Md. Rev. Roger Truax officiated. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
There was a gathering of friends and family from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, at the Funeral Home.
The family requests that to help defray funeral expenses, contributions may be made to the Grove Funeral Home, 141 West Main Street, Hancock, Md. 21750.
