Elwood Arlo Howell, age 72, of Hancock, died Thursday, October 3, 2013, surrounded by his family, at Harrisburg Hospital, Harrisburg, Pa.
Born September 16, 1941, he was the son of the late Heaston and Maxine Edwards Howell, and the husband of Linda (Dean) Hinckle Howell, whom he married January 20, 1962, at the Stone Bridge Church of the Brethren, near Hancock.
Arlo was a retired surveyor for the Maryland State Highway Administration. He was a member of the Webster B. Harrison Post 26 American Legion, in Hancock.
He enjoyed the outdoors and was a member of the NRA.
Besides his wife; he is survived by three sons, Greg Howell and wife, Kim, of Hancock, Kevin Howell and fiancé, Elena Bane, of Wolfsville, and Kenny Howell and wife, Vicki, of Needmore, Pa.; two brothers Roger Howell and wife, Kathy, of Clear Spring, Md., and Jason Howell, of Tennessee; two sisters, Leona Goedde and husband, Ron, of Falling Waters, W.Va., and Debra Smoot and husband, Alan.
Surviving also are five grandchildren, Dustin Thomas, and fiancé, Jade Jones, Bethani Howell and fiancé, Kevin Waters, Katie Marro and husband, Josh, Sydney Howell and wife, Emily;
and seven g
reat-grandchildren, John Waters, Jayden Howell, Karlie and Karmyn Marro, and Hayden, Tailyn and Tanner Thomas.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, October 7, 2013, at 11:00 a.m., at the Grove Funeral Home, 141 West Main Street, Hancock, Md. The Rev. W. Kenneth Stottlemyer will officiate. Burial will be in the Damascus Cemetery, Big Cove Tannery, Pa.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, from 2 to 4 p.m., and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Funeral Home.
