Ernest D. Ray, age 92, of Hancock, died on Saturday, May 10, 2014 at his home.
Born December 12, 1921, in Buck Valley, Pa., he was the son of the late Fred and Annie Mann Ray.
He was retired from the Maryland State Highway Administration as a truck operator.
He was a veteran, serving in the U.S. Army during WWII.
He attended Piney Plains United Methodist Church, in Little Orleans, Md.
He was Shop Steward for Maryland Classified Employees, and a member of the Webster B. Harrison Post #26 American Legion, in Hancock.
He is survived by his wife, Anne Ray, whom he married October 4, 1986, in Berkeley Springs, W.Va.; a step-son, Mark Anthony Johnson, of Stoystown, Pa.; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Besides his parents, he was also preceded in death by two sons, Roger Eugene Ray, and David Wayne Ray; six sisters; three brothers; and a number of nieces and nephews.
A service will be held on Wednesday, May 14, at 11:00 a.m., at the Grove Funeral Home, 141 West Main Street, Hancock. Pastor Don Preston will officiate. Burial, with a military graveside service by the Tri-State Honor Guard, will be in the Buck Valley Memorial Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the Funeral Home on Tuesday, from 6 to 8 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in his name may be made to the Grove Funeral Home, 141 West Main Street, Hancock, Md. 21750, to help defray funeral expenses.
