Floyd S. Palmer, age 95, of Warfordsburg, died on Tuesday, April 15, 2014, at Menno Haven Retirement Community, in Chambersburg, Pa.

Born April 17, 1918, in Warfordsburg, he was the son of the late Walter and Opal Sharpe Palmer, and the husband of Adrienne Mae Clevenger Palmer, who died August 15, 2009.

He was a graduate of Warfordsburg High School, with the class of 1938.

He was a self-employed truck driver for the past 65 years, driving until he turned 95. He had previously been employed by the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission.

He was as member of the I.O.O.F. Warfordsburg Lodge 601; a member of the Loyal Order of the Moose 842; and also a member of the Blue Knights Motorcycle Club, the Retreads Motorcycle Club, and the Goldwing Road Riders Motorcycle Club.

He was a hard working, fun loving and rugged individual, who enjoyed every day of the 95 years and 363 days he was blessed with. He lived life to the fullest, and never worried about anything. He loved telling jokes. His life’s great passions were motorcycle riding, Bluegrass music, and playing the bones.

He is survived by one daughter, Marlys A. Palmer, of Chambersburg, Pa.; one son, Dale S. Palmer and wife, Brenda, of Warfordsburg; friends, Suzanne Eyer, and Isabelle Hayhurst; as well as many nieces; nephews; and a community of friends.

Besides his parents and wife, he was also preceded in death by one brother, Harold Palmer.

A service will be held on Friday, April 18, at 11:00 a.m., at Cedar Grove Christian Church, 5806 Flickerville Road, Warfordsburg. Rev. Tim Close and Rev. Richard Bernhard will officiate. Burial will be in the Cedar Grove Cemetery, in Warfordsburg.

The family will receive friends at the Grove Funeral Home, 141 West Main Street, Hancock, Md., on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., and at the Church on Friday from 10 to 11 a.m.

The family requests that memorial contributions, in his name, may be made to the Warfordsburg Senior Center, 209 Hollow Road, Warfordsburg, Pa., 17267, or the Menno Haven Retirement Community, 2075 Scotland Avenue, Chambersburg, Pa. 17201, or the Needmore Fire and Rescue Squad, 8328 Great Cove Road, Needmore, Pa. 17238.
