F rank Bernard Bishop, Sr., age 80, of Hancock, Md., passed away on January 25, 2019 at Doey’s House, in Hagerstown, Md. surrounded by his loving wife and family.
Born February 15, 1938, in Hancock, he was the son of the late Jesse E. and Ruth B. (Bishop) Bishop; and husband, for 59 years, to Sondra K. (Crabtree) Bishop.
He was a graduate of Hancock High School with the class of 1956.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served in the 101st Airborne Division, with twenty-three jumps; and he retired from the Maryland State Highway Administration after being employed there for 42 years.
He was a member of the Mt. Olivet Presbyterian Church, in Hancock; the Mt. Olivet Men’s Group; and he was a former elder in the Church.
He was a member of the Hancock High Alumni Association; and a member of the Veterans Administration, in Martinsburg, W.Va.
In addition to his wife, Frank is survived by one son, Frank B. Bishop Jr. and his wife, Annette, of Flintstone, Md.; one daughter, Debbie K. Unger and her husband, Rodney, of Little Orleans, Md.; four grandchildren, Laura, Daniel, Roddy, and Duane; fourteen great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; two brothers, Jesse Bishop, of Falling Waters, W.Va., and Arthur Bishop and his wife, Carol, of Berkeley Springs, W.Va.; two sisters. Nancy J. Bishop, of Hancock, and Dorothy Hovermale and her husband, Wayne, of Hancock; a brother-in-law, Donnie Crabtree, of Kattannip, Pa.; several nieces, nephews and cousins; two special nephews, David and Jimmy Price; many life-long mutual friends from his high school class of 1956; a host of co-workers at the Western Regional Lab; his pastor; his church; and special friends, Morris Sigley and Ron.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Joey L. Bishop; a brother, James E. Bishop; an infant brother, Howard Bishop; two sisters, Anna Mary Powell and Verna Lee Bishop; a brother-in-law, Lee Crabtree; a sister-in-law, Ruth Price; and father and mother-in-law, Hanson and Sylvia Crabtree.
The family will receive friends at the Grove Funeral Home, 141 West Main Street, Hancock, on Thursday, January 31, 2019, from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m.
A celebration of life will be held on Friday, February 1, 2019, at 6:00 p.m., at the Mt. Olivet Presbyterian Church, 14253 Exline Road, Hancock. Pastor Philip Unger will officiate.
