George Edward Smith, age 74, of Artemas, died Saturday, January 11, 2014 at his home.
Born September 10, 1939, in Flintstone, Md., he was the son of the late Ellery and Ethel Shipley Smith.
He served in the U.S. Army Reserve, and attended Flintstone area schools.
He was employed with the Local Painters Union, in Cumberland, Md.
He owned and operated George’s Wine Shack, in Artemas.
He served as the Mann Township Supervisor.
He is survived by his wife, Carol M. Price Smith; one son, Dale Smith, of Ohio; one daughter, Lorrina Smith, of Indiana; step-son, Michael Price and wife, Judy, of Warfordsburg, Pa.; step-daughter, Stacey Smith and husband, Harold, of Hedgesville, W.Va.; one sister, Louise Hess, of Flintstone; three brothers, Frank Smith and wife, Janet, Paul Smith and wife, Linda, Larry Smith and wife, Joann, all of Flintstone;cousin, Elton Shoemwker of Hancock and a number of grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by three sons, Lynn Smith, Bill Smith, and Brian Smith; and one brother, Donald Smith.
A service will be held on Tuesday, January 14, at 11:00 a.m., at the Grove Funeral Home, 141 West Main Street, Hancock, Md. Rev. John D. Close will officiate. Burial will be in the Fairview Christian Cemetery, in Artemas, Pa.
The family will receive friends at the Funeral Home on Monday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m.
