Gerald Dewey French, age 91, of Hancock, died on Friday, November 25, 2016 at the War Memorial Hospital, in Berkeley Springs, W.Va.
Born Tuesday, October 6, 1925, in Hancock, he was the son of the late William Dewey and Nellie May (King) French. He was the husband of Connie Lucille (Bowers) French, whom he married July 5, 1979 in the Hancock Church of God.
He was a member of the Highland United Methodist Church.
He retired from U.S. Silica Company, in Berkeley Springs, after thirty-three years.
Gerald enjoyed spending time with his family, especially when they could go out to eat together.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by one son, John Bowers, Sr., of Hancock; one daughter, Tammy Dickey, of Hancock; Six grandchildren, John Bowers, Jr, David Creek, Jr, Renee Buterbaugh, Danielle Hufham, Sandra Creek, and Stephanie Creek; and six great-children, Alissa Buterbaugh, Joshua Creek, Remington Creek, Weston Creek, Samuel Hufham, and Breanna Ritz.
Besides his parents, he was also preceded in death by two brothers, William and Robert French; and two great-grandchildren, Caleb Creek and Jordan Creek.
The family will receive friends at the Grove Funeral Home, 141 West Main Street, Hancock, on Monday, November 28, 2016 from 2 until 4 p.m. and 6 until 8 p.m. and at the church one hour prior to the funeral service.
Funeral services will be held at the Highland United Methodist Church, 1302 Valley Road, Berkeley Springs, W.Va., on Tuesday, November 29, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. Rev. Kenneth Mason will officiate. Burial will follow in the adjoining church cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Foster Sirbaugh, Fred Sirbaugh, David Creek, Jr, John Bowers Jr, Shaun Buterbaugh and Jeremiah Hufham
