Harry Edgar Strock, Jr., age 93, of Hancock, died on Saturday, October 8, 2016, at his home.
Born Thursday, May 10, 1923, in Hagerstown, Maryland, he was the son of the late Harry Edgar, Sr. and Margaret (Snyder) Strock, and the husband of Dolores (McKinley) Strock, whom he married April 16, 1950.
He was a graduate of Greencastle High School with the class of 1941; and also from the Peirce Business School, in Philadelphia, Pa.
He was a former member of St. Thomas’ Episcopal Church, in Hancock, where he was a devoted vestry member, and served as Registrar for many years. He was currently a member of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, in Berkeley Springs, W.Va.
He owned and operated Harry’s Pennsylvania Ave. Market, in Hancock, from 1957 until 2007.
Harry was a veteran of WW ll, and served in the U.S. Army in northern France and central Europe.
He was a member of the American Legion; the VFW; and the Tonoloway Rod and Gun Club, all in Hancock..
Harry was a man of few words, and a perfect example of how we should live in this world.
In addition to his wife of 66 years, he is survived by one son, Harry Edgar Strock, lll and his fiancé, Lydia Manning; one daughter, Rebecca Ann Strock; one granddaughter, Michelle Bohrer Malmquist and her husband, Brian, of Harrisburg, NC.; one grandson, Harry Edgar Strock, lV and his friend, Sydney Perry; and one sister-in-law, Joyce Strock, in Fayetteville, Pa.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Helen Betts; one brother, Donald Strock; and a beloved daughter-in-law, Cathy Strock.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday October 11, 2016 from 2:00 until 4:00 p.m., and 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at the Hancock Assembly of God Church.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, October 12, 2016, at St. Thomas’ Episcopal Church, at 11:00 a.m. Rev. Brian Shoda will officiate. Burial, with military honors by the Tri-State Honor Guard, will follow in the adjoining church cemetery.
