James William Shives, Sr., age 76, of Berkeley Springs, W.Va., passed away on Tuesday, August 22, 2017 at his home.
Born June 17, 1941, in Hancock, Md., he was the son of the late William Leroy and Mary Virginia (Kelly) Shives, and the husband of 54 years to Darlene (Unger) Shives.
Jim was a devoted husband and father, and he loved woodworking, and the Baltimore Orioles.
He was employed for forty years as a carpenter with Waynesboro Construction Co., in Waynesboro, Pa.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, James Shives, Jr. and wife, Jennifer, of Martinsburg, W.Va.; daughters, Deanna Stotler and fiancé, Patrick Shaw, of Berkeley Springs, and Tammy Clopper and husband, Jamie, of Warfordsburg, Pa.; a son, Ricky Shives and wife, Peggy, of Hancock, Md.; a daughter, Melinda Fink and fiancé, Tony McLean, from Hancock; a son, Jeff Shives and wife, Nicole, of Berkeley Springs; nine grandchildren, Amy, Wayne, Melany, Josh, Sierra, Samantha, Kobe, Kennedy, and Peyton; four great-grandchildren, Jared, Peyton, Jayda, and Rylan; four brothers, Larry, Kenny, Gary, and Denny Shives; and one sister, Ruthie Ritz.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by three brothers, Ronald, Bobby and Paul Shives.
The family will receive friends on Friday, August 25, 2017, from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m., at the Grove Funeral Home, 141 W. Main St., Hancock, Md. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 26, 2017, at 11:00 a.m., at the Funeral Home, with Rev. Steve R. Dawson officiating. Burial will follow in the Tonoloway Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery, located near Warfordsburg, Pa., on Thompson Road (Route 655), a few miles north of Hancock.
Memorial donations in his name may be sent to Grove Funeral Home, 141 West Main Street, Hancock, Md. 21750 to help defray funeral expenses.
