Jerry Lynn Unger, age 68, of Warfordsburg, Pa., passed away on Tuesday, March 17, 2020 at his home.
Born October 10, 1951, he was the son of Lawrence Roscoe Unger, of Warfordsburg, and the late Marcella Mae (McCusker) Unger; and the beloved husband of Pamela (Bauer) Unger.
Jerry grew up in Waterford, Mich. and spent summers in Hancock, Md. with his grandparents. He graduated from Waterford Township High School in 1969 and went on to college, where he began, at age 19, to work for Youth for Christ. At age 20, he became the youngest film promoter for Billy Graham, spending ten years traveling the country to preach and work with communities, teaching them to learn of Christ's love for them. He worked his way through college and owned a college bookstore...again working with people that he loved. He had a Bachelor’s degree in communication and journalism, as well as a Master's in photography.
Jerry began doing photography in Jonesboro, Ark. and owned and operated the Unger Studio of Fine Photography there for eighteen years. He was a self-taught chef, loving to create “Jerryized” recipes. He attended Disney University for their customer service education and, in 2015, he designed and implemented the Customer Service Program for the Emergency Room in the Carle Foundation Hospital, in Urbana, Illinois. He retired from this endeavor in 2018 to move to Pennsylvania with his wife to begin to enjoy retirement.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by six children, Stephen Unger of Jonesboro, Ark., Ed Unger of Cumberland, Md., Rebecca Hibbs of White House, Tenn., Nathan Hibbs, of Portland, Tenn., Jeremy Unger of Virginia, and Jaime Unger-Martin (Marcus), of Jonesboro, Ark.
Private funeral services will be held at the Grace Fellowship Christian Church, 130 North Pennsylvania Avenue, Hancock, Md., on Saturday, March 21, 2020, at 11:00 a.m., with Rev. Edward Guyer officiating. A Celebration of Life will be held for all friends and family at a later date. The family will receive loved ones for one hour prior to start of the funeral service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in his name may be made to the Grace Christian Fellowship Church, 130 N. Pennsylvania Ave., Hancock, MD 21750.
Arrangements were entrusted to the Grove Funeral Home, in Hancock, and online condolences will be accepted at www.grovefh.com
