John Edward Fling, age 83, of Hancock, died Wednesday, September 7, 2011, at the Winchester Medical Center, Winchester, Va.
Born October 1, 1927, in Hancock, he was the son of the late Edward E. and Olive V. Mitchell Fling, and the husband of Gladys H. Stotler Fling, of Hagerstown, Md., whom he married September 10, 1948.
He was a member of St. Thomas Episcopal Church, Hancock; the Webster B. Harrison Post 26 American Legion, Hancock; and the Loyal Order of Moose #1483, Berkeley, Springs, W.Va.
He served in the US Army during WW ll.
Besides his wife, he is survived by one daughter, Beverly S. Flowers, of Hancock; and one son, Edward R. Fling, of Needmore, Pa.; one brother, Ludwell Fling, of Hancock; six grandchildren; and twelve great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by six sisters, Dorothy Moore, Marge Smith, Josephine Geisler, Margaret Lynch, Roxabelle Fling and Bess Slifer.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 10, at 10:30 a.m., at the Grove Funeral Home, 141 W. Main Street, Hancock, Md. Rev. Fred Isler will officiate. Burial, with military honors by the Tri-State Honor Guard, will be in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park, Hagerstown, Md.
The family will receive friends at the Funeral Home on Friday, from 6 to 8 p.m.
