Joseph Ashkettle

Joseph Andrew Ashkettle, 56, Warfordsburg, PA., passed away Friday, April 14, 2023.

Born December 25, 1966, in Hagerstown, MD., he was the son of the late Bernard Ashkettle and Irma Ashkettle.

He served 4 years in the US Marines as a Crew Chief.

He was a Correctional Officer for 34 years at MCI-H and worked in construction for 28 years.

He was of the Catholic faith.

Joe enjoyed taking care of and loving his family, and helping as many people as he could.

Joe was a loving husband and wonderful father. He is survived by his wife of 29 years, Bonnie Ashkettle; children Jacob, and wife, Emily, of Fredericksburg, VA, Emily, of Chambersburg, PA., and Jeremiah and Adam, of Warfordsburg, PA.; siblings Lynn Ashkettle, and fiancé, Cindy Clark, Mary Apple, of Hancock, MD, and Matthew Ashkettle, of Big Cove Tannery, PA.; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his brother, John Ashkettle, and great-grandmother, Mary Brooks.

The family will receive friends, Wednesday, April 19, 2023, 2-4pm and 5-8pm at Grove Funeral Home, 141 West Main St, Hancock, MD., as well as at the church one hour prior to funeral service. There will be a rosary service held Wednesday, April 19, 2023, at 7:00 pm at the funeral home. Funeral services will be held Thursday, April 20, 2023, at 11:00 am, at St. Peter’s Catholic Church, 16 East High Street, Hancock, MD. Father Jack Lombardi will officiate. Burial will be private.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Joe’s memory directly to the St. Peter’s Catholic Church.
