Joseph Wayne Corbett, age 68, of Hancock, died Sunday, June 2, 2013, at Winchester Medical Center, in Winchester, Va.

Born December 23, 1944, in Hancock, he was the son of the late Lorenza and Viola Jackson Corbett.

He was a 1980 graduate of Shepherd College, in Shepherdstown, W.Va.

He was a retired registered nurse and instructor, and had been employed at the Chambersburg Hospital, the War Memorial Hospital, and the Valley View Nursing Home in Berkeley Springs, W.Va.

He formerly lived in California, where he taught nursing classes.

He was a member of Catalpa United Methodist Church, in Hancock.

He is survived by his wife, Lee Sevilla Corbett, whom he married in 1995 in California; two sons, Philipp Joseph Corbett, of Hancock, Joseph Clarke and wife, Elvia Lopez-Clarke, of Long Beach, Ca., four step-children in the Philippines; three sisters, Dianne Myers, of Cape Coral, Fl., Vivian Smith, of Hagerstown, Md., and Doloris Corbett, of Washington, D.C.; one brother, Robert Corbett, of Hancock; grandchildren, two in California, one in Singapore, and three in the Philippines.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, Eddie Corbett, Melvin Corbett, and Jack Corbett; and two sisters, Edna Corbett and Hilda Lee Lockhart.

A service will be held on Thursday, June 6, 2013, at 11:00 a.m., at the Hancock Church of God, 7528 Millstone Road, Hancock. Rev. Terry Goodwin, Rev. John Close and Rev. Steve Corbett will officiate. Burial will be in the Catalpa United Methodist Cemetery, near Hancock.

The family will receive friends, at the Grove Funeral Home, 141 West Main Street, Hancock, on Wednesday, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., and at the Church on Thursday, from 10 to 11 a.m. For the convenience of family and friends, the Funeral Home will be open from 2 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers memorial contributions, in Joe’s memory, may be made to Catalpa United Methodist Church Building Fund, c/o Donald Corbett, P.O. Box 165, Hancock, Md. 21750-0165.
