John Robert "Bob" Golden, age 88, went to be with the Lord with his wife and family by his side, Sunday, October 10, 2010, at Loyalton Assisted Living in Hagerstown, Md.
Born September 17, 1922, in Hancock, Md., he was the son of the late Stanley Wesley and Cornelia Mellott Golden.
He was a veteran of WW II, serving in the U.S. Army in New Guinea, Luzon and the South Philippines.
He was retired from Mack Trucks in Hagerstown, Md. as a machinist.
He was a member of St. Thomas Episcopal Church in Hancock, Md.
He was a very dedicated family man.
He is survived by his wife, Violet P. Jackson Golden, whom he married September 1, 1943, in Hancock, Md.; three sons, Robert Dale Golden, Sr. of Chincoteague, Va., Dennis K. Golden and wife, Sue Duvall, of Warfordsburg, Pa., Stanley Franklin Golden and wife, Geraldine Willey, of Berkeley Springs, W.Va.; four daughters, Linda Jean Bishop and husband, John, Jr., of Hancock, Md., Cynthia A. Trail and husband, Larry, of Warfordsburg, Pa., Kathy Sue Hixon and husband, Allan, Jr., of Hancock, Md., Jacqueline Lee McFadden and husband, Dwayne, of Needmore, Pa.; four sisters, Lora Ann Myers of Needmore, Pa., Norma Jean Keefer of Hancock, Md., Darla Hartley of Hagerstown, Md., Margo Mann of Little Orleans, Md.; two brothers, Herbert Golden of Hancock, Md., and David Golden of Hagerstown, Md.; fifteen grandchildren; a number of step-grandchildren; eighteen great-grandchildren; a number of step-great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two brothers; Marvin Golden and S. William Golden; one sister, Juanita Dorrier; two grandsons; and one granddaughter.
A service will be held Wednesday, October 13, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Thomas Episcopal Church, Hancock, Md, Rev. F. Allan Weatherholt, Jr. will officiate. Burial with a military service by the Tri-State Honor Guard will be in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the Grove Funeral Home, Hancock, Md., Tuesday 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. and at the church on Wednesday 10 to 11 a.m.
