Kenneth Scriever

Kenneth B. “Jake” Scriever, age 91, of Buck Valley, Pa., passed away on Friday, September 3, 2021, at the Fulton County Medical Center, after a brief illness.

Born March 9,1930, he was the son of the late Grier Lehman Scriever and Emily Elisabeth (Ward) Scriever.

Jake, as he was commonly known, attended Harmonia and Center schools before attending Warfordsburg High school, where he completed the 10th grade.

He worked as a carpenter’s helper at the Pennsylvania Glass and Sand Company, in Berkeley Springs, W.Va., until he was drafted into the United States Army in 1951 and deployed to Korea. Prior to his deployment, he married J. June Price, in Front Royal, Va., on March 23, 1952, and they recently celebrated 69 years of marriage. During his deployment, he was awarded the Bronze Star for Valor in combat. After returning stateside, he remained in the Army Reserve until 1957, and the Hancock American Legion Honor Guard until 1970.

Following his discharge from active duty in the military, he worked for various local construction companies, including McCray Builders, in Warfordsburg, Pa. In 1970 he began a 20-year career as a Project Manager for the Marriott Corporation, overseeing restaurant and hotel construction in the Mid-Atlantic Region, retiring in 1990.

Known as “Pap” to his immediate family, he enjoyed his garden and carpentry. As a young man, he played adult league baseball for Buck Valley; and was an avid Atlanta Braves fan, watching regularly with the TV volume on high.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Robert, Homer, and Reed; and one sister, Dorothy (Scriever) Deneen.

He is survived by his wife, June Scriever; a sister, Pauline (Scriever) Northcraft; three sons, Gregory, Mark and David (wife Amy); five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

The family wishes to express special thanks to his niece, Diane (Stahle) Myers; as well as the staff at FCMC; and all those involved in his care from the V.A.

Private graveside services will be held in the Rocky Gap Veterans Cemetery, at the family’s convenience.

Memorial donations in his name may be made to the Wounded Warriors Foundation.
