Leon Drake Smith

Leon D. Smith, 84, LaVale, MD., passed away Monday, October 2, 2023, at Devlin Care, in Cumberland, MD.

Born December 19, 1938, in Cumberland, MD., he was the son of the late Alice Twigg Smith, and the husband of Betty L. Cavender Smith.

He worked for Kelly Springfield Trucking Company, Oester Trucking and D&R Trucking. He retired from D&R in 2021.

He enjoyed going to dirt track and NASCAR races.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Wesley Smith, and wife Sandra, of Sanford FL.; a daughter, Barb Smith, LaVale, MD.; four grandchildren, Shannon, Jennifer, Stephen and Jeremy; two great-grandchildren, Olivia and Jordan; a sister-in-law, Linda Golden, Cumberland, MD.; and a brother-in-law, Denny Cavender.

In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Scott and Betsy Smith and a sister, Nancy Weddle.

The family will receive friends Friday, October 6, 2023, 6-8:00 pm, at Grove-Rogowski Funeral Home, 141 West Main St, Hancock, MD., and Saturday, October 7, 2023, 10-11:00 am, at the funeral home.  Funeral services will follow at 11:00. Pastor Tim Pratt will officiate. Burial will be in Fairview Christian Church Cemetery, Artemas, PA.
