Louise Josephine Fritz

Louise Josephine Johnson Fritz, age 93, of Little Cove, Mercersburg, Pennsylvania, passed away on Saturday, January 11, 2025, at Doey’s House in Hagerstown.

Born Wednesday, October 7, 1931, in Washington County, Maryland, she was the daughter of Joseph Scott and Mary Elizabeth (Weller) Johnson. She was the last surviving member of her family. Louise was the widow of Vernon F. Fritz.

She and Vernon F. Fritz were married on Saturday, July 15, 1950, in Berkeley Springs, West Virginia. They lived in Little Cove all their lives, helping to raise her and his siblings, and their children.

Louise was a homemaker who was well known in the community for her baking and excellent cooking skills. She always welcomed all to her home. No one ever left hungry at her house.

She was a member of Little Cove Methodist Church.

Louise is survived by a son, Larry Fritz; two daughters, Barbara Kay Keefer (husband Jamie), and April Nicole Daley (husband Jamie); grandson, Vernon McCarty (wife Rachel) and granddaughter Victoria Daley; three great-grandchildren, Garrett Eugene McCarty, Josephine Diane McCarty, and John Vernon McCarty.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Vernon, a daughter, Diane Lynn Fritz McCarty; a son-in-law, Gary (Dave) McCarty; her brothers, Roger E. (DeBoy) Johnson, Bobby J. Johnson, and sisters Catherine Grove, Frances Weller, Beulah Shoemaker, Agnes Keefer and infant sister – Goldie Johnson.

Funeral service will be held on Thursday, January 16, 2025, at 1:00PM with visitation one hour prior to service at the Grove-Rogowski Funeral Home, 141 West Main Street, Hancock, Maryland 21750. Interment will follow at Little Cove cemetery 12599 Little Cove Rd, Mercersburg, Pennsylvania 17236. Pastor Harry Strite and Pastor Frank Kocek will officiate.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Louise’s name to Little Cove Methodist Cemetery Association, in care of David Cook, 9080 Little Cove Road, Mercersburg, PA 17236.
