Madeline May Flowers

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Madeline Flowers on Thursday, October 24, 2024, at the age of 97. Madeline was born on Thursday, October 22, 1927, in Berkeley Springs, WV to Romanus and Ida Harden Waugh. The oldest of seven children, she cared for them all at the age of sixteen after her mother passed away.

Madeline was married to Glenn Flowers for sixty-four years. He was a willing helper to deliver or set up the beautiful cakes she baked for her community. Madeline was known for her love of others and her devotion to her family. Her life was filled with changes and personal challenges but met it all with determination and her strong will. She always wanted to set a good example for her family.

Preceding her in the joy of meeting the Lord: her mother and father, Romanus and Ida Waugh; her husband, Glenn E. Flowers; Brothers, Richard and Thomas Waugh; sisters, Donna Jean Golden, Rita Lee Fadley, and Loretta Stotler. She is also preceded in death by her first husband, William H. Flowers.

Madeline is survived by a son, William H. Flowers, Jr. (Deborah); daughters, Gloria Burke (Eddie), Christi Wyrick (Harry), and Vicki Creek (Wayne); sister LeeEsta McBee. Grandchildren: Angie Ellis (David), Autumn Ott (Jason), Brian Burke (Lauren), Janelle Cataldo (Rick), Steve Wyrick, Brian Wyrick, and Jeremy Flowers. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

As we struggle with the loss of her presence, we find comfort in knowing that her spirit lives on through her family and the love she had for each one of us.

Final services will be held at the Grove-Rogowski Funeral Home, 141 West Main Street, Hancock, MD 21750, on Monday, October 28, 2024, at 1:00pm. Rev. Steve McCarty will officiate. Visitation will be held one hour prior, 12:00pm to 1:00pm, at the funeral home. Madeline’s final resting place will be at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 3738 Resley Road, Hancock, MD. Interment at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church will follow the service.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks you to make a donation in Madeline’s name to Hospice of Washington County, 1710 Underpass Way, Suite 300, Hagerstown, MD 21740.
