Marietta M. “Sissy” Zies, age 89, of Hancock, died Monday, December 24, 2012, at War Memorial Hospital, in Berkeley Springs, W. Va.

Born November 26, 1923, at Ditch Run, Fulton County, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Jacob Walter and Annie Catherine Hiett Douglas, and the widow of Harold E. “Sonnie” Zies.

She was a former employee of Weaver’s Restaurant, in Hancock, and had worked for Jacobs Brothers, and Alberta Orchard.

She was a Presbyterian, by faith.

She is survived by three sons, Charles Stephen Zies and wife, Deborah, of Hancock, Jack Lee Zies and wife, Nancy Anne, of Hagerstown, Dusty Thomas Zies and wife, Charlotte Rebecca, of Hancock; one brother, Ellis “Pappy” Douglas, of Orbisonia, Pa.; nine grandchildren; and nineteen great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one son, Hayes; one daughter, Victoria; two brothers, Harold W. Douglas, and Walter Luther Douglas; a granddaughter, Jill Zies; a grandson, Stephen Zies, II, and a daughter-in-law, Dianne Zies.

A service will be held on Friday, December 28, at 11:00 a.m., at the Grove Funeral Home, 141 West Main Street, Hancock, Md. Rev. William Swope will officiate. Burial will be in the Mt. Olivet Presbyterian Cemetery, in Hancock.

The family will receive friends at the Funeral Home, on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m.
