Marvin Gene Cavender, age 85, of Warfordsburg, and recently of Williamsport Nursing Home, in Williamsport, Md., went to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday, August 18, 2014, surrounded by his loving family.

He was born January 14, 1929, at Braddock Hospital, in Pittsburgh, Pa., to Chester McKinley Cavender and Mildred Dudley Cavender Caldwell.

On November 28, 1948 he married Betty Lou McCarty, who preceded him in death on February 10, 1995.

Gene was a member of the Hancock United Methodist Church for 72 years. In his later years he attended Buck Valley Christian Church.

Gene worked, from an early age, for Jack Casper Orchards, and J.W. Myers, both in Hancock, Md. He was a veteran, serving in the Army-Air Corp 1946-1947. He then worked for E.I. Dupont, in Falling Waters, W.Va. for almost 33 years.

He was a member of AARP; Woodman of the World; and a past-member of the Hancock Historical Society.

He is survived by daughters, Cheryl Christine Stotler, and Candace Cecelia Gloyd; son-in-law, Keith Gloyd; granddaughter, Lora Hawkins; grandsons, Stacy Stotler and Christopher Gloyd; great-grandchildren, Ella Hawkins, Samuel and Nicholas Stotler, Madison and Olivia Gloyd;  sister-in-law, Edna Tracey; sisters, Edith Gloyd, Ruth Brush, and Frances Younker; and many nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by an infant son, Jeffrey Allen Cavender; step-father, George Caldwell; and six brothers and sisters.

A service will be held on Friday August 22, 2014, at 11:00 a.m., at the Buck Valley Christian Church, 2281 Harmonia Road, Warfordsburg, Pa. Rev. Scott Gibbs will officiate. Burial, with a military service by the Tri-State Honor Guard, will be in the Buck Valley Methodist Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the Church on Friday from 10 to 11 a.m.

Arrangements were handled by the Grove Funeral Home, 141 West Main Street, Hancock, Md.
