Mother Leona Watson

Mother Leona Watson, age 87, of Hagerstown, MD passed away on Friday, February 21, 2025, at Meritus Medical Center in Hagerstown, MD.

Born Friday, May 28, 1937, she was the daughter of the late Elder Leon Brumback and Elderess Mary Younker Brumback.

Mother Leona was a graduate of North Street School in Hagerstown, MD. She went on to get her nursing degree at Hagerstown Junior College. She was then employed by the Western Maryland Hospital and Potomac Center as an LPN for over thirty years.

Mother Leona was a lifelong member and Ordained Mother of The Supreme Council of The House of Jacob in the Hancock and then Hagerstown, MD congregations. As an Ordained Minister she served many years as Secretary and Treasurer of various church auxiliaries and was a singer in the District Choir. She also served for several years as the President of the District’s Senior Saints Organization. Mother Leona enjoyed crocheting. She would crochet everyone in her family a blanket. She loved to work outside, especially attending her garden and walking around yard sales and thrift stores. She was a very kind, giving, loving, and caring person.

Most of all, Mother Leona loved her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

She is survived by three children, Vincent Watson, Deaconess Cheryl Watson, and Deacon Edwin Watson, all of Hagerstown, MD; two grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; four great-great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and one sister, Catherine Tyler of Hagerstown, MD.

Mother Leona is predeceased by three sisters, Sister Aquilla Brumback, Sister Lovilla Brumback, and Betty Frisby; four brothers, Brother Levi Brumback, Brother Paul Brumback, Brother Joseph Brumback and Brother Leon Brumback.

Funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 1, 2025, at 11:00am with a one-hour visitation prior to the service, beginning at 10 am, at The Supreme Council of the House of Jacob, 516 Berm Road, Hancock, MD 21750. The funeral service will be officiated by Ministers of The Supreme Council of the House of Jacob. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.
