Paul Joseph Moats, Sr., age 78, died Friday, October 29, 2010 at his home.
Born March 8, 1932, in Hancock, Md., he was the son of the late Roy C. and Bridget A. Weller Moats.
He was a veteran of the Korean War, serving in the U.S Navy, from 1952 to 1954.
He retired January, 1988 from Letterkenny Army Depot, Chambersburg, Pa.
He was a self-employed mechanic and businessman.
He was owner-operator of Paul's Used Cars from 1963 to 1998.
He also operated Moat's Service Station in 1958.
He was a member of the Webster B. Harrison Post 26 American Legion, Hancock, Md., and was also a member of Stone Bridge Church of the Brethren.
He is survived by his wife, Patsy I. Younker Moats, whom he married February 2, 1957 at Stone Bridge Church of the Brethren; two sons, Paul J. Moats, Jr. and Christopher W. Moats, both of Hancock, Md.; two daughters, Bonnie S. Harpor, of McConnellsburg, Pa., Carol A. Moats of Hancock, Md.; three brothers, Leroy Moats, Herman Moats and Ray Moats, all of Hancock, Md.; five sisters, Veriee Weller, Etta Mae Younker and Rosalie Ward, all of Hancock, Md., Mary Stuckey of Berkeley Springs, W.Va., Betty Hixon of Warfordsburg, Pa.; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; a number of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two sons; Jeffrey L. Moats and Calvin I. Moats; one brother, Homer Moats; two sisters, Helen Pittman and Shelva Jean Crouse.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, November 2, at 11:00 a.m. at the Stone Bridge Church of the Brethren, Hollow Road, Hancock, Md. Rev. Harry Strite and Rev. Stephen Wagoner will officiate. Burial, with a military service by the Tri-State Honor Guard, will be in the Church cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the Grove Funeral Home, Hancock, Md. Monday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m., and at the Church on Tuesday 10 to 11 a.m. For the convenience of family and friends, the Funeral Home will be open from 2 to 8 p.m. on Monday.
