Paul Smith

Mr. Paul Eugene Smith, 76, of Hagerstown, Maryland, passed away Tuesday, May 11, 2010 of failing health.

He was born to the late James and Margaret Smith, July 18, 1933 in Hagerstown, Maryland.  He was married to Shirley Jackson Smith in 1957, but later divorced.

During his twenties, Paul worked for the Mount Wilson State Hospital system as a janitor.  He then entered the Korean War, to serve his country.  However, in that war, he sustained injuries that would later follow him throughout his life.
He had been a resident of the Martinsburg, West Virginia Veterans Administration domicile unit for over seven years, before being transferred in March 2010 to his last residence of the NMS Nursing Home Facility in Hagerstown, Maryland.

Paul is survived by one child; Kim Renee Smith of Lancaster, Texas. He is also survived by brothers and sisters, and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

A viewing will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, May 15, 2010 at the Saint Peter's Catholic Church in Hancock, Maryland, with the funeral to follow at 11:00 a.m.  Burial, with military honors by the Tri-State Honor Guard, will be held at the Smith Family plot of Saint Peter's Catholic Church.
