Paul Nelson Smith, Sr., age 90, of Little Orleans, died Sunday, October 13, 2013, at his home.
Born August 10, 1923, in Little Orleans, he was the son of the late Conda N. and Edith Creek Smith, and the husband of Freida M. Bible Smith, whom he married May 1, 1946.
He served in the U.S. Army as an Military Policeman, in France and Germany, during WWll.
He was a lifetime farmer, and was retired from the Maryland State Roads as a foreman.
He was a member of the Piney Plains United Methodist Church, in Little Orleans; a member of the James W. Bowers Lodge #173 AF & AM, in Hancock, Md.; and a member of the Tall Cedars of Lebanon, Forest # 95, in Hagerstown, Md.
Besides his wife, he is survived by two sons, Paul N. Smith, Jr. and wife, Cheryl, and Steven J. Smith and wife, Nancy, all of Hagerstown, Md.; one sister, Ruth Whitfield, of Monroeville, Pa.; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Jane Burns Hoopengardner; and two brothers, Merle Smith, and Donnie Smith.
A service will be on held Thursday, October 17, at 11:00 a.m., at the Piney Plains United Methodist Church, in Little Orleans. Rev. Fred Iser will officiate. Burial, with a military graveside service by the Tri-State Honor Guard, will be in Glendale Cemetery, in Flintstone, Md.
The family will receive friends at the Grove Funeral Home, 141 West Main Street, Hancock, Md., on Wednesday from 4 to 8 p.m., and at the Church on Thursday from 10 to 11 a.m.
