Robert Willis Mitchell, Sr., age 76, of Warfordsburg, passed away Sunday, October 23, 2011, at the Meritus Medical Center, Hagerstown, Md.

Born November 12, 1934, in Hancock, Md., he was the son of the late Jacob and Ester Landers Mitchell, and husband of Shirley Jean (Hixon) Mitchell, whom he married July 3, 1955, in Clear Spring, Md.

In his early years Bob worked for Hi-Lo Oil, Hudson Oil, News Oil, and Thorton Oil. For many years, he was vice-president of Highway Petroleum Sales in Hancock.  For the past 20 years, he was employed by AC&T, in Hagerstown, Md.

He served in the U.S. Army Reserves.

He was a member of the Mt. Olivet Presbyterian Church in Hancock, Md., and a member of the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 1483 in Berkeley Springs, W.Va.

Besides his wife; he is survived by four children, Robert W. Mitchell, Jr. and companion, Marlene Eyles, of Warfordsburg, Pa., Tina White and husband, Jeff, of Clear Spring, Md., Gregory Mitchell and wife, Connie (Cain), of Warfordsburg, and Tricia Miller and husband, Ross, Jr., of Clearville, Pa.; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren; four sisters, Janice Stotler, Bonnie Bagent, Molly Young and Jeanie Yost, all of Hancock; sister-in-law, Gladys Mitchell, of Berkeley Springs, W.Va.

He was preceded in death by brothers, Wilbur (Bus) Mitchell and wife, Wilma, and Jim Mitchell.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 29, 2011, at 11:00 a.m., at the Buck Valley Christian Church in Warfordsburg. Rev. William Swope will officiate. Burial will follow in the adjoining Church cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the Grove Funeral Home, 141 W. Main St., Hancock, Md., on Friday from 4 to 8 p.m., and at the Church on Saturday, from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m.
