Ronald L. “Ronnie” Van Meter, Jr., age 37, died Monday, April 8, 2013, at Hershey Medical Center, in Hershey, Pa.

Born September 4, 1975, in Cumberland, Md., he was the son of Ronald L. Van Meter, Sr. and Bonnie J. Crusan Van Meter, of Hancock, and son-in law of Eddie and Sylvia Zimmerman Moats.

He was a 1993 graduate of Hancock High School.

He was employed with U.S. Silica, in Berkeley Springs, W.Va., as a Control Room Operator.

He was a Lieutenant with the Hancock Volunteer Fire Company, where he had been a member for 20 years. He was a member of the Washington County Fire Police, and was an EMT with the Hancock Rescue Squad.

He was a member of the Sons of the American Legion, Webster B. Harrison Post # 26, in Hancock, and he was an avid hunter and fisherman.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife, Chera L. Moats Van Meter, whom he married July 10, 1993 at St. Thomas’ Episcopal Church in Hancock; one son, Aaron J. Van Meter, at home, and his fiancée, Tiffany Diehl; one daughter, Allyson B. Van Meter, at home; two brothers, James R. Van Meter, and Stephen E. Van Meter, both of Hancock; one grandson, Hunter G. Diehl.

He was preceded in death by one son, Hunter B. Van Meter.

A service will be held on Friday, April 12, at 11:00 a.m., at St. Thomas’ Episcopal Church. Rev. F. Allan Weatherholt, Jr. will officiate. Burial will be in the Church cemetery.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m., at the Hancock Assembly of God Church, 431 North Pennsylvania Avenue, Hancock, Md., and at St. Thomas’ Episcopal Church, 2 East High Street, Hancock, on Friday from 10 to 11 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials in his memory may be made to the Hancock Volunteer Fire Company, Fulton Street, Hancock, Md. 21750
