Rosaline "Rosie" Yvonne Smith Couser, of Hancock, Md., died Monday, April 11, 2011, at the home of her daughter, Lisa Amos of Berkeley Springs, W.Va. She lived to be seventy- five years of age.
Born April 30, 1935, in Baltimore, Md., she was the daughter of the late Benjamin M. and Dortha Helen Seavolt Smith.
Rosaline and her parents moved to St. Charles, Missouri, in 1948. In 1953, Rosie graduated from St. Charles High School, in Missouri. After high school, Rosie worked for Greyhound and Trailways Terminal; the Best Western Hotel; and St. Joseph’s Health Center, all in St. Louis, Missouri.
Rosie and her family returned to Maryland in 2000, after her retirement, to live in her grandmother's homestead. It was here that she became a member of the Hancock United Methodist Church in Hancock. As an animal lover, she cared for many strays over the years and became a member of the Humane Society of America.
She is survived by her husband, Martin D. Couser, Sr., whom she married October 25, 1958, at Hancock United Methodist Church; one son, Martin D. Couser, Jr., of Hancock, Md.; one daughter, Lisa Rose Anne Amos, of Berkeley Springs, W.Va.; three grandchildren, Ashley Rose, Courtney Elizabeth and Nichols Martin Amos, all of Berkeley Springs, W.Va. She was preceded in death by twin sons.
A service will be held Saturday, April 16, at 10:00 a.m., at the Grove Funeral Home, Hancock, Md. Rev. Duane L. Jensen will officiate. Burial will be in the Tonoloway Primitive Baptist Cemetery, near Hancock, Md.
The family will receive friends at the Funeral Home, Friday 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m.
