Sandra Louise (Jones) Howard, age 70, of Hancock, died Saturday, September 10, 2011 at the Morgan County War Memorial Hospital in Berkeley Springs, W.Va.
Born July 26, 1941, in Hancock, Md., she was the daughter of the late John Roy and Adelaide Maryon Wachter Jones.
She was a 1960 graduate of Hancock High School.
She was formerly employed with the Hancock News, as office manager and editor for 29 1/2 years.
She was a life member of St. Thomas Episcopal Church in Hancock, where she was a former member of the Vestry and a member of the Daughters of the King. She also was a volunteer for many different jobs at St. Thomas.
She was a former member of the Planning Commission.
She was a member of the Hancock Lioness Club.
She is survived by her husband, Alfred Landon Howard, whom she married August 31, 1959 in Cumberland, Md.; one son, William Nicholas Howard and wife, Mary, of Hancock, Md.; one brother, John Roy Jones, Jr. and wife, Janet, of Berkeley Springs, W.Va.; grandchildren, Brandon Patrick Howard and Amanda Nicole Howard.
She was preceded in death by one brother, William Richard Jones.
A service will be held Wednesday, September 14, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Thomas Episcopal Church, Hancock, Md. Rev. F. Allan Weatherholt, Jr. will officiate. Burial will be in the Church cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the Grove Funeral Home, Hancock, Md., Tuesday 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m.
