Serena Peyton Tasker, age 11, of Hancock, Md., died Monday, March 14, 2011 at Children's National Medical Center in Washington, D.C.
Born February 17, 2000, in Hagerstown, Md., she was the daughter of Shawn Alan and Teresa Lynn Hines Tasker, of Hancock, Md.
Serena was a fifth grade student at Hancock Elementary School, where she was a member of the Raiders Cheerleaders.
She was a member of the Tri-State Tigers Competition Cheerleading Team.
She volunteered for Loaves and Fishes Thrift Store in Hancock, Md.
She was a member of St. Thomas' Episcopal Church, Hancock, Md.
Serena was an organ donor and has already impacted two other lives.
Besides her parents, she is survived by her grandparents; Roger Hines and step-grandmother Cheryl, of Falling Waters, W.Va., and Margaret La Liberte; aunts, Lisa Hendershot, Teresa Feck, Cheryl Stephens, Jamie Atlee and Heather Mace, uncle; Daniel Tasker ; and numerous cousins. She was preceded in death by grandparents, Daniel L. Tasker, Sr. and Patricia Ann Tasker.
A service will be held Saturday, March 19, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Thomas' Episcopal Church, 2 E. High St. Hancock, Md. Rev. F. Allan Weatherholt, Jr. will officiate. Burial will be in the adjoining Church cemetery.
The family will receive friends Friday, 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., at the Hancock Assembly of God Church, 431 N. Pennsylvania Avenue, Hancock, Md.
The family requests that all of her friends and classmates, attending, wear funky socks.
The family also requests that, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions, in Serena's memory, may be made to the Grove Funeral Home, 141 W. Main St. Hancock, Md. 21750.
