Sherman Burton, Jr., age 74, of Indian Spring Road, died Thursday, April 8, 2010 at his home.
Born June 9, 1935 in Parkhead, MD., he was the son of the late Sherman S., Sr. and Grace Viola Walls Burton, and husband of Judith A. Keefer Burton of Big Pool, whom he married February 12, 1993 in Hagerstown, MD.
He was of the Protestant faith.
He was a member of the Brotherhood of Maintenance of Way.
He was retired from the Western Maryland Railroad, where he held positions as chauffer, welder, and trackman.
Besides his wife, he is survived by one son Jeffrey W. Burton of Clear Spring, MD.; one sister, Joann Price of Hancock, MD. and one brother, Robert Lee Burton of Hagerstown, MD. Also surviving is one step-grandson; two nieces and two nephews; six great-nieces and two great-nephews; also one special great-great-nephew Gregory Lynn Golden, III.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Naomi Burton and one brother, Marvin L. Burton.
Funeral services will be held Monday, April 12, 2010 at 11:00a.m. at the Parkhead United Methodist Church. Pastor Jeff Anthony and Chaplin Sally Maxwell will officiate. Burial will be in the Parkhead Cemetery.
The family will receive friends on Sunday from 2-4p.m. and 6-8p.m. at the Grove Funeral Home, 141 West Main Street, Hancock, MD. and at the church one-half hour prior to the services on Monday.
