Tammy Faye Moats, 88 went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and to be eternally with the love of her life, Ray C. Moats on Thursday February 8, 2024, while under the care of Hospice at Doey’s House in Hagerstown, MD, with her daughter Terra, and two very special caregivers, Trinity and Steph (Cutie Pie) from WRV by her side. She resided at Williamsport Retirement Village in Williamsport, Maryland.
Born October 15, 1935, she was the daughter of Gilbert D. Kerns and Mary C. Kerns. She married her sweetheart, Ray C Moats on May 16, 1953, in Hancock Maryland. Ray has been awaiting her arrival since his death on February 11, 2021.
In her younger years, Tammy worked at The Bridge Restaurant, Sagle’s Restaurant, and The Park-n-Dine in Hancock, Maryland. After she married, she devoted all of her time to her husband, children, and later, grandchildren. Tammy loved to cook and crochet (which she learned from her Mother). She also enjoyed raising flowers and had a very green thumb.
She loved to share the word of God and with her husband, they were led to a prison ministry and missionary trips abroad. She was a member of Hancock Assembly of God. She continued to sing and tell of her journey with Christ during her residence at Williamsport Retirement Village. She could be heard singing anytime, day or night. Mom made so many new friends and people who became like family at WRV. Her roommate and best friend Eleanor Reed became like a sister to her and all of Eleanor’s family treated Mom like their own Mom and Grandma. She and Eleanor liked to dress alike and look out for each other.
Tammy is survived by daughter Terra L. Strait and her husband Warren of Warfordsburg PA and two very special grandsons Anthony and Logan Strait who could bring a smile to her face during phone calls or visits. Nannie and Pap Moats loved to take “the boys” to the park, arcades, and church when they were younger. She will be greatly missed by them.
Also surviving is daughter Cindy Weller and her husband Roger and granddaughter Joy of Hancock, MD.
Tammy came from a large family and besides her parents she was preceded in death by brothers Harry Kerns, Melvin Kerns, Robert Kerns, and Dwight Kerns, and Cletus Kerns, and sisters Ada Kerns, Violet Messner, Edna True, and Catherine Miller. Surviving are brother Alston Kerns and sisters Jeannette Hull, Phyllis Batt, and Velma Keller.
Services will be held on Thursday, February 15, 2024, at one o’clock at the Hancock Assembly of God Church, 461 N. Pennsylvania Ave. Hancock, MD. Viewing and visitation will be one hour prior to the service on Thursday, February 15, 2024, at the church. Rev. Lynn Singleton will officiate at the service. Burial will immediately follow in the Stone Bridge Church of the Brethren cemetery, 14904 Orchard Ridge Road, Hancock MD.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her name to Mt. Hope 25 Summit Avenue Hagerstown MD 21740.
Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Grove-Rogowski Funeral Home, 141 West Main St., Hancock, MD. Online condolences can be expressed to the family at www.grfuneralhome.net.
