Terrence (Terry) Lee Truax, a native of Hancock and long-time resident of Towson, passed away peacefully in Chantilly, Virginia on Monday, February 16, 2015. He was 70 years old.
"Coach T" as he is fondly remembered, spent the majority of his career as a basketball coach at the collegiate and scholastic levels. A 1968 graduate of the University of Maryland, Terry was an integral part of the Towson University basketball program, serving as the Tigers' head coach from 1983 to 1997, during which time he led Towson to seven winning seasons; three conference tournament championships; and four conference regular season titles. Most recently he served as an English teacher and basketball coach at The Patterson School, in Lenoir, N.C.
Terry was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Goldie Truax, as well as his loving wife, Pam, of Carlsbad, New Mexico. He is survived by his son, Scott, and daughter-in-law, Deb; his son, Brad; and his daughter, Annie.
Terry will be laid to rest on Thursday, April 2nd, at a private ceremony at Cedar Lawn Cemetery, in Hagerstown, Md., followed by a memorial service at the Hancock United Methodist Church, 170 West Main Street, Hancock, Md., beginning at 1:00 p.m. There will be a condolence basket.
