Verleen Catherine Liner, former investigator for the Department of Welfare in San Joaquin County, CA, passed away peacefully on September 26, 2023, in Winchester, Virginia. She was born on October 5, 1947, in Cumberland, Maryland.
Verleen dedicated an admirable 25 years of her life to serving the San Joaquin County community before retiring in 2006. Her commitment and passion for her work were unparalleled, leaving a lasting impact on all those she encountered.
She was a 1965 graduate of Southern Fulton High School, Warfordsburg, PA.
Outside of her professional life, Verleen had a variety of interests and hobbies that brought joy to her days. She delighted in completing crossword puzzles and sharing her delectable creations of Amish friendship bread with loved ones. As an active member of the Warfordsburg Senior Center, she formed meaningful friendships within her community.
Verleen's memory will forever be cherished by her surviving family members and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents, Henry Powell and Catherine Brown Powell; her husband, Ernest J. Liner; her son, Ernie Jay Liner; her sister, Billie Charlene Bell; and her brother, Melvin D. Powell.
Left to carry on Verleen's legacy are her son, Karl A. Liner and his fiancé, Rheanna Crane, of Stockton, CA. Also mourning the loss are Verleen's sisters Jackie Booth and husband Glenn "Chum" Booth of Selbyville, DE., Joyce Fritz of Hancock, MD., and Patricia Sampson, and husband, John Sampson, of Jacksonville Beach, FL.; her brothers Henry K. Powell, and wife, Debbie Powell, of Stevenson, VA. and Bernie Powell, and wife, Pam Powell, of Harpers Ferry, WV.; grandchildren Jared K. Yates, Kaleb Holloman, Kayliegh Liner, Kristen Liner; eleven great-grandchildren; a very special friend Dora Lee "Cookie" Boles; numerous nieces and nephews; as well as her cherished neighbors Sherry and George Fleegle.
Verleen Catherine Liner will be remembered for her unwavering dedication to service, her devotion to family and friends, and her warm and caring nature. She touched the lives of many with her kindness and will be deeply missed by all those who had the pleasure of knowing her.
In celebration of Verleen's life, a memorial service will be held at Hancock Town Hall, 126 West High St, Hancock, MD on Sunday, October 8, 2023, 2-4:00 pm. Family and friends are invited to pay their respects and share in the beautiful memories that Verleen leaves behind.
