Virginia Payne

Virginia Lee (Purnell) Payne, age 91, of Hancock, Md., passed away on August 6, 2019 at Ravenwood Nursing Care Center, in Hagerstown, Md.

Born in Hancock, on November 23, 1927, she was the daughter of the late Genevieve (Purnell) Sipes, and step-father, Merrill J. Sipes; and the widow of Irvin R. Payne, who passed away in February, 1977.

She attended Hancock area schools.

She was a member of the Hancock United Methodist Church, where she sang on the church choir and served on the Altar Guild.

She was a homemaker, and she loved spending time with her family. She also enjoyed gardening, working in her flower bed, going on bus trips, shopping and dining out.

Virginia is survived by one daughter, Carolyn Breakall and her husband, Lester “Boone” Breakall, of Warfordsburg, Pa.; and a special young man, David A. Breakall, of Hagerstown, Md.

She was the last surviving member of her family.

The family will receive friends at the Grove Funeral Home, 141 W. Main St., Hancock, on Friday, August 9, 2019, from 3:00 until 6:00 p.m., where a memorial service will be held at 6:00 p.m. Rev. Barbara Suffecool will officiate.
