Virl Sheeder, Jr.

Virl Hobert Sheeder Jr., known to his family and friends as “Butch”, peacefully passed away on Thursday, May 5, 2022, at UPMC Presbyterian hospital in Pittsburgh,  PA.

Butch lived his 76 ½ years in Warfordsburg, PA.

Born to his parents, Virl Sr. and Ann, on September 25, 1945, he was preceded in death by his beautiful and beloved daughter, Valarie Jean Sheeder-Runyon.

Butch grew up to become a dedicated husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend to many.  He was a skilled carpenter and general contractor. He loved the outdoors, the fresh country air and the bite of the first winter frost. His passion was hunting, and his gun collection brought him much pride.

Butch had a personality that was larger than life, and he had a very loud and distinct laugh – it was contagious, and we will miss his sarcastic sense of humor.

Butch is survived by his loving and dedicated wife of 56 years, Violet Jean Stotler-Sheeder; his son, Virl Hobert Sheeder III; his son-in-law Madison Offenhauser; his grandchildren; Tiffany Pryor, and her husband, Corey Pryor, Olivia Runyon and Devin Runyon; his great grandchildren, Shyanne and Bryce Pryor; his brothers, John Lee and Gary Paul Sheeder; his sister, Nancy Sue Ramsey and many, many, nieces and nephews.

There will be a gathering of friends at Grove Funeral Home, 141 West Main St, Hancock, Maryland on Saturday, May 14, 2022, beginning at 11:00, followed by a Celebration of Life at 12:00 pm.  Pastor Jean Squires will officiate.  Burial will be private at Zion Lutheran Church, Warfordsburg, PA.
